Xinyu College located in Xinyu and is the only state college there as well. Xinyu, around which there are two famous scenic spots of Jiangxi province------Lushan Mountain and Jinggang Mountain, is considered to be a “ Shenzhen in Jiangxi”. And Xinyu College is just 20 minutes drive away from the national scenic spot ---Fairy Lake. Mountains and rivers embrace the campus, which makes the surrounding and scenery beautiful and attractive.
    Xinyu College used to be Xinyu Vocational University when it was founded in 1986. When authorized by National Education Committee in April 1992, Xinyu College changed its name. In February of 2002, approved by Jiangxi government, Xinyu College integrates with Xinyu Normal School, its attached primary school and Xinyu Health School. Since then, a new Xinyu College was established.
    Now the college covered an area of 1200 mu, and planned to have another 2000 mu for development. There are two standard sports ground with 400-metre racetrack in the campus, 21 basic and specialized laboratories (including basic chemistry, basic physics, biochemistry, electric, special techniques, music, art, computer theory, software center, medicine basis, clinical medicine and electronic teaching and so on), advanced language laboratories which contains over 1850 seats, 6 broadcasting studios providing lots of English learning information, 18 computer rooms equipped with over 1200 computers and multimedia rooms which have over 3800 seats. The college offers up-to-date equipments and conditions for teaching and administration with its equipments worth over 22,700,000 RMB. The library of Xinyu College collects over 500,000 volumes of books, 350 kinds of periodicals from China and foreign countries. There is also an advanced electron reading-room in it.
    So far, there are over 500 staffs in Xinyu College, and over 60% are full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, over 40% are above the qualification of associate professor, 39 teachers have got master’s degree, 5 teachers have been qualified as provincial skeleton teachers, and 2 teachers have been honored as provincial excellent teachers. Xinyu College pays much attention to the development of teachers’ qualification. Therefore, a group of teachers are sent to learn in some famous college and universities like Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Guangzhou Foreign Language University, Beijing Foreign Studies University and Dalian University of Technology. Besides these, we also invited some visiting professors from key universities like Peking University, National Taiwan University and Nanchang University. The inviting professors includes professor Hu Shuzhao (from National Taiwan University), professor Fu Ershi (a famous artist), Professor Zhou Shaosen (a tutor of doctor’s degree and Secretary of CPC in Nanchang University), Dr. Li Dian (a associate professor from Arizona University) and so on. We now have 9 departments, one section and an attached primary school in Xinyu College, i.e. Foreign Language Department, Chinese Department, Computer & Communication Engineering Department, Electro mechanics & Automatic Engineering Department, Art Department, Economy & Trade Department, Mathematics Department, Physical Education Department, Medical & Nursing Department, Normal School and an attached primary school. The courses cover many kinds of fields. Since 2000, Xinyu College successfully recruited the first group of undergraduate students. And it is also the first time for Xinyu College to recruit students out from Jiangxi province. Now over 8100 students are studying in this college. For the purpose of improving the teaching qualities, Xinyu College has set and perfect a series of regulations and systems on teaching management. Through the reforming steps on management, the teaching qualities have been improved a lot. The students in Xinyu College frequently won the provincial and even the national prizes. The students graduated from Xinyu College are working on different field all over the country and even the world. Now Xinyu College is still working hard to develop itself to be a university which can cover all kinds of fields like art, science, medicine and so on.
